Just after two years of being the president of basketball operations for the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers, Magic Johnson decided to step down from the responsibility. The news stunned all the NBA fans, making them enthusiastic for his further project.

The former basketball player announced the news on 9th April 2019 stating that he is stepping down as the president of basketball operations of the Lakers. Johnson delivered the news at an impromptu news conference with his statement before the final game of the season.

I want to go back to having fun. I want to go back to being who I was before taking on this job, and we’re halfway there with LeBron coming. I think this summer, with that other star coming in — whoever’s going to come in — I think this team is going to be in position to really contend for a championship with the growth of the other young players.

However, he did not inform the team’s controlling owner Jeanie Buss about the decision. Later, Jeanie made a tribute for him from through her Twitter post.

Johnson became the president of basketball operations for the Lakers replacing Jim Russ in February 2017. Moreover, he became a partial owner of the team for several years.

The 59-year-old is currently married to Earlitha “Cookie” Kelly since 1991. The couple has a son, Earvin III, aged 26 who is openly gay and a reality star. Additionally, his son Andre Johnson was born in 1981 from his relationship with Melissa Mitchell. Magic and his wife are also parents to an adopted daughter Elisa.
