Her Journey To The WNBA

After graduating from high school, Sophie committed to the University of Missouri to play college basketball. She played for the Tigers for four seasons from 2015 to 2019.

Cunningham was selected as the thirteenth overall pick by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2019 WNBA draft. Afterward, she penned a 4-year $189,522 contract with the Mercury, worth $189,522. Her base salary for 2021 is $58,710.

On 25 May 2019, she made her WNBA regular-season debut with the Mercury in a game against the Seattle Storm. Moreover, she grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot in the Mercury’s 77-68 loss.

Sophie averaged 3.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in her 32 appearances in the 2019 season. Likewise, she averaged a career-best 5.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in the 2020 season.
