Ja Morant, age 19, was born as Temetrius Jamel ‘Ja’ Morant on 10 August 1999 in Dalzell, South Carolina. He is the son of a former basketball player father, Tee Morant, and mother Jamie Morant. His father played basketball for Claflin University before steering a professional career. However, Tee let go of basketball and became a barber once Ja was born.

Ja grew up with his younger sister, Teniya, who plays basketball for Hillcrest Middle School in Dalzell. Standing at a tall height of 6 feet and 3 inches (1.91 m), Ja attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. There, he started his amateur basketball career.

College Career, Stats

Though Ja Morant earned All-State distinction at Crestwood High School, he went unranked by the recruiting services and was lightly recruited by NCAA Division I programs. Soon, he made a big impact playing for Murray State Racers and recorded the stats of 12.7 average points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game in 32 starts as a freshman.

Ja’s debut came with a team-high 16 points in a game against Middle Tennessee on 13 November 2017. He soon recorded his first triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists in an 80-52 victory over Eastern Illinois on 28 December 2017.

The young lad recorded his third triple-double of the current season on 21 March 2019 with 19 points, 16 assists, and 12 rebounds assisting his team in an 83-64 victory over #5 ranked Marquette Golden Eagles. To this point, the star of the college basketball records stats of .487 field goal percentage, .325 3-point field goal percentage, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 8.1 assists per game from 64 starts.
