All three Cunningham generations were athletes. Her father Jim played football and her mother Paula ran track and field at the University of Missouri. Likewise, her grandfather, aunt, and uncle also played various sports for the Tigers.
The 6-foot-1-inch grew up with her elder sister Lindsey Cunningham in Columbia, Missouri. Lindsey played as a guard for the Tigers.
