Chikezie “KZ” Okpala is 21 years of age and was born on 28 April 1999. He is the son of parents Martin Okpala and Mary Okpala, who raised him in Anaheim, California, United States.
His father is an engineer by profession, and his mother is a lawyer. He is the youngest in the family and has two elder sisters named Kiki and Chisom and an older brother named Toby Okpala. His brother Toby graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a BA in Economics in 2019.
Okpala is African-American by ethnicity as his parents are Nigerian immigrants.

KZ attended Esperanza High School in his hometown in Anaheim, California. He scored a 4.4 GPA while graduating from Esperanza High School in 2017. Moreover, he played basketball at high school and averaged 30 points and 11 rebounds his senior season.
Okpala grew from 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 8 inches during his four years at high school. With his alluring physique, he has maintained a bodyweight of 215 lbs (98 kg).
Following high school, he got an offer from Stanford in July 2016 and committed there. He played there until his sophomore year and decided to forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2019 NBA Draft.
Began His NFL Career In 2019
The Phoenix Suns drafted him with the 32nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. Later, he was traded to the Miami Heat.
KZ signed the contract with the Heats on 7 July 2019. He played two of the first four games for the team and missed its 19 games after suffering from Achilles strain. Okpala was assigned to the Heat’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, in December 2019.
In his first start in the 2020-21 NBA season, he recorded 16 points (6-9 FG, 4-5 3Pt, a rebound, and an assist across 27 minutes in a 120-100 loss to the Detroit Pistons on 17 January 2021.
