Cameron Mackray Champ, age 26, was born on 15 June 1995 in Sacramento, California. He is one of the four children of his parents, Jeff Champ and Lisa Champ. His father was a minor-league baseball player. He grew up with a brother Brent, and two sisters, Melissa and Madison Champ.
Champ is of mixed ethnicity as his father is biracial and his mother is white. He was introduced to golf by his African-American grandfather at the age of two.
He attended Heritage Peak Charter School in West Sacramento, California. Afterward, he went to Texas A&M University to play golf. He played collegiate golf for the Texas A&M University Aggies for three seasons from 2014 to 2017.
