Sharyn Alfonsi is an award-winning American journalist, who now serves as a correspondent for 60 Minutes, a news magazine and television program broadcast on CBS. Previously, she served as a fill-in anchor for the “CBS Evening News” weekend edition and as a contributor to “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Sharyn Elizabeth Alfonsi was born on 3rd June 1972 to in Washington, D.C. She is the eldest of two children of Martin Alfonsi and Kay Francis Drenik. Her father was a data processing company executive who served at United States Steel, Pittsburgh. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968. At her early age, her family moved to McLean, Virginia, where she spent her childhood with her little brother Joseph Martin Alfonsi.

Alfonsi pursued her high school education in McLean, Virginia. She then went to the University of Mississippi in Oxford. There, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in political science and journalism studies at the age of 22 in 1994.

Career; ABC News, CBS

Sharyn began her journalism career from KHBS-TV in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. There, she took several positions such as a news reporter, weekend weather anchor, photographer and editor. She then worked as a general assignment reporter for WVEC–TV Norfolk, Virginia.

Moreover, Alfonsi was a reporter for the CBS affiliate KIRO-TV in Seattle. She also served as a reporter and substitute anchor for the CBS-owned WBZ-TV in Boston. In 2002, she joined CBS News and started to cover the major news stories such as Hurricane Katrina the war in Iraq, Gaza and the Israel-Lebanon war. She then joined ABC News in 2008 and started to work as a New York-based reporter. After working for five years, she again moved to CBS to join the team at “60 Minutes Sports.” She made her debut appearance on 60 Minutes in 2015.

Sharyn Alfonsi does not prefer to reveal much regarding her marital life. The 48-year-old is currently married to Mattew Eby for more than a decade.

The couple is the parents of two adorable children. Firstly, they welcomed a son named Wyatt in 2010. Their second child, a daughter named Flynn was born in 2012.
