Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. was born on 20 August 1954 in Queens, New York. He is the son of Albert Lincoln Roker Sr. and Isabel Roker. His father of Bahamian descent was a bus driver and his mother is of Jamaican descent. He grew up with siblings Alisa, Desireé, Patricia and Christopher Roker. His brother Christopher is the Chief executive officer at NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation (HHC).

Roker with a height of 5 feet 6 inches attended Xavier High School in Manhattan. He received a B.A. in communications from the State University of New York at Oswego at the age of 22. Initially wanted to be a cartoonist and even worked on his high school’s Cartooning & Illustration Club.

Well, Roker is a twice-married man. He first married WNBC producer Alice Bell on 22 December 1984. However, they divorced after 10 years of marriage in 1994. They have an adopted daughter named Courtney, born in 1987.

After a year of their divorce, he married journalist Deborah Roberts on 16 September 1995. Deborah, aged 59 now serves as an ABC News Network Correspondent. She is the winner of an Emmy Award and a Clarion Award for her reporting. The couple shares two children; a daughter named Leila (born in November 1998) and a son named Nicholas Albert (born on 18 July 2002).

Weight Loss

Roker is now enjoying a much-healthier lifestyle maintaining a proper weight. However, in his early career days, he struggled with his weight behind the scenes. He even underwent gastric bypass surgery to lose more than 100 pounds in 2002.

Moreover, in 2019, he revealed that he lost about 40 pounds after following the ketogenic diet since September 2018.
