Sports runs his family blood as his father Scott played Division III basketball at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, from 1986 to 1989. Likewise, his sister plays college soccer at the University of Michigan.

His Journey To MLS

Luke attended Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota. He began his soccer journey there, guiding his team to the USSDA National Playoffs during his senior year.

After graduating in 2016, he went to the Creighton University to play college soccer. He played for the Creighton Bluejays for four years until 2019.

Furthermore, he played for, or Des Moines Menace and Chicago FC United in the USL PDL and in the NPSL for Minneapolis City SC on two separate occasions.

Haakenson was selected 80th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Nashville SC on 13 January 2020. Afterward, he signed a contract with the club on 25 February 2020.

Luke then moved on loan to the USL Championship side Charlotte Independence. Meanwhile, he made his professional debut against Sporting Kansas City II on 8 March 2020.

After returning to Nashville SC, he scored his first MLS goal, scoring twice against Toronto FC on 23 June 2020. He makes an astounding salary from his MLS stint so far.
