Justin Gaethje is an American MMA fighter, who currently fights in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has won 19 of his 22 wins by knockout or technical knockout and has received five Fight of the Night and four Performance of the Night awards in his eight UFC fights.

Born as Justin Ray Gaethje on 14 November 1988, in Safford, Arizona, the 31-year-old, is one of the three children of John Ray Gaethje and Carolina Gaethje. His father John was a copper miner in Morenci, Arizona, and his mother Carolina worked as a postmaster.

Justin has a twin brother named Marcus Gaethje, who worked at the Morenci Mine in Arizona. Moreover, his sister Kenzi Gaethje Jurado works as Obstetrics Technician at Mt Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford, Arizona.

Gaethje attended Safford High School in his hometown. He then went to the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Services.

His UFC Career: Record, Losses

Justin started fighting at the age of four. During his high school, he became Arizona state champion as a wrestler for two times.  Meanwhile, he was NCAA Division I All-American, while in the university. There, he made his amateur MMA career debut on 20 August 2011, against Kevin Croom.

On 22 January 2013, he joined the World Series of Fighting (WSOF). He made his debut at WSOF 2 against Gesias Cavalcante, finishing the fight in the first round through TKO. In 2017, he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship his debut against Michael Johnson at The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption Finale on 7 July 2017.

Justin won the fight against James Vick by knockout in the first round on 25 August 2018 at UFC Fight Night 135. There, he won the Performance of Night award, which was the fifth consecutive bonus award in his fourth fight in UFC. Meanwhile, he won the fight against Edson Barboza on 30 March 2019 and against Donald Cerrone in the main event at UFC on ESPN+ 16 on 14 September 2019.

On 18 April 2020, he was set to face Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. But the match was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak and rescheduled on 9 May 2020. From his MMA career, Justin has a record of 22 wins and 3 losses from 25 matches.
