Just 6 days after Jeff Okudah left for Ohio State to pursue a college football career, he had to face a family tragedy. He lost his mother to cancer on 14 January 2017. Though she is not with him right now, he believes she is still watching him and smiling from a distant.

Following his impressive college career at Ohio State, Jeff Okudah announced himself for the 2020 NFL Draft. Immediately, he got selected as the third overall pick by the Detroit Lions.

Jeff Okudah Bio & Family: Age, Mother, Height

Jeff Okudah, age 21, was born on 2 February 1999, in Grand Prairie, Texas, the United States. His mother, Marie Okudah, passed away on 14 January 2017, after battling with cancer. Marie got diagnosed with lymphoma when Jeff was a toddler. The treatment often made her unable to attend her son’s games; however, she would later watch highlight videos online and appreciate her son’s efforts.

About 6 feet and 1 inch (1.85 meters) tall in height, Jeff grew up alongside his sister named Karen Okudah. He attended South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas. There, he commenced his amateur football career. Later on, Jeff committed to Ohio State University to play college football.

Jeff’s Letter To His Late Mother

Remembering his deceased mother, Jeff expressed his feelings through an article written on The Players’ Tribune. He began with,

Dear Mom,

I’m going to start by telling you something you already know: I miss you.

Now I’m going to tell you something nobody’s known until right at this moment: I’m officially declaring for the NFL draft.

I’m 20 years old, if you can believe it — which means it’s been almost three full years since the two most important things in my life happened. First, in January of 2017, I enrolled early at Ohio State University. And then second, later that same month, you lost your long battle with lymphoma.

You passed away.

It’s hard to put into words, everything that’s happened since then. But certain memories have a way of standing out.

In the end, Jeff thanked his mother for looking up to him and his sister. He promised her that he would look after Karen and the rest of his future family.

His College Stats; NFL Draft

After committing to Ohio State University in January 2017, Jeff played in 14 games and recorded 17 tackles as a true freshman. The cornerback then recorded the impressive stats of 32 tackles from 13 games as a sophomore in 2018.

Jeff’s first career interception came against the Miami Redhawks as a junior in 2019. Subsequently, he recorded impressive stats of 34 tackles, 9 passes defended, and 3 interceptions in the 2019 season. Following that he decided to forgo his senior year by declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Eventually, Detroit Lions selected him as the third overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Jeff penned a 4 year, $33,528,544 contract with the Detroit Lions, including a $21,944,396 signing bonus, $33,528,544 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8,382,136 on 13 July 2020.

In 2020, Okudah is set to earn a base salary of $610,000 and a signing bonus of $21,944,396 while carrying a cap hit of $6,096,099 and a dead cap value of $21,944,396.
