Green attended North Babylon High School in his hometown North Babylon, New York. He also played basketball for the St. Mary’s High School team. Afterward, he went to the University of North Carolina to begin his college basketball at the age of 18. He has a towering height of 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 meters) and weighs 215 lbs (98 kg).

Danny played for the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball for four seasons until 2009. There, he played in more games (145) and had more wins (123) than any Tar Heel before him. He was selected by the NBA side the Cleveland Cavaliers as the 46th overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft.

After playing in 20 games in his rookie year, the San Antonio Spurs picked him in November 2010. He won his first NBA championship defeating the Miami Heat 4 in the 2014 NBA Finals. Thereafter, he was traded the Toronto Raptors in July 2018.
