Christopher Loffredo Hayes was born on 28 February 1979 in Norwood, New York. He is one of the three sons of Roger Hayes and Geri Hayes. His father Roger was a Jesuit seminarian, who does health advocacy work in East Harlem for the NYC Department of Health. Roger moved to New York from Chicago while studying at a Jesuit seminary. Similarly, his mother Geri was a teacher and works for the NYC Department of Education.

Chris with a height of 6 feet attended Hunter College High School. He then went to Brown University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 2001.
