Alan Arnette is an American mountaineer, blogger, and keynote speaker. He is the oldest American to summit K2 at the age of 58 on 27 July 2014.

Alan Arnette was once a married man with a wife.

It was during his 30s when he was enjoying his married life with his wife. He resided with his wife in Dallas Texas where he had the BMW, house, and boat.

However, it did not last long, and the couple got separated.

Alan has shared some glimpse of his past married life on his blogs. Regarding the reason for the separation, he hinted that he divorced his wife in order to pursue his dreams. The couple did not have children.

Arnette is now single and enjoying his life so far.

Alan Arnette is now at the age of 64 and was born on 27 July 1956. He spent his early age with his parents and family members in Destin, Florida.

Arnette is the son of James B. Arnette and Ida Arnette. His father James was a WWII Veteran who served at Normandy Beach. James was born in 2008 and died in 2006.


Alan faced a family tragedy when he lost his mother Ida from Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, his four aunts died from the same disease. He has been serving as Alzheimer’s advocate and has been raising funds for Alzheimer’s research through his climbs.

The mountaineer has a brother named Kenny Arnette. After high school, he along with his brother went to the University of Memphis. There he graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree.

His Career Transition

Alan spent 30 years as an executive in high technology. He began his career as a computer sales representative in Dallas, Texas. Moreover, he served as a General Manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Consumer Customer Support organization.

After returning back to the United States, he started the Digital Camera business which was going smoothly. However, he took retirement to care for his mother as her Alzheimer’s worsened.

Afterward, he decided to be a globally recognized advocate for Alzheimer’s causes and started to climb mountains. He climbed the Earth’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, on 21 May 2011. He has climbed 7 Summits and his work is updated on his personal blog.

An Alzheimer’s advocate, he has raised over $250,000 for Alzheimer’s non-profit organizations. Besides, he is a contributor for National Geographic, Outside magazine, and many more.
