Nicknamed as “The Big Ticket,” Walt Harris is a prominent name on UFC. He is now a married man with children but he faced a family tragedy at the end of the year 2019.

Walt Harris is an American mixed martial artist, who competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He ranks #9 in the UFC heavyweight rankings as of December 2019.

Walt Harris Family & Early Life

Walter Jermaine Harris was born on 10 June 1983 in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. He is the youngest of three children of Vivian Morgan. He was raised by his single mother Vivian along with his two elder brothers. His mother used to work two jobs, running the post office for raising her children.

Harris attended Homewood High School in his hometown, where he graduated in 2001. There, he played for the Homewood Patriots basketball team. Afterward, he went to Jacksonville State University and earned an Associates’s degree in Physical Education.

His UFC Career

Walt made his professional MMA debut on 15 March 2011, facing Justin Thornton at HEF: Hess Extreme Fighting. He then signed with the UFC in September 2013 losing his first fight against Jared Rosholt at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale.

Harris had a brief stint with the Titan Fighting Championship in 2014 and then returned to UFC.  The 6 foot 5 inch has an MMA record of 13 wins 8 losses and 0 draws. Similarly, he has 38% striking accuracy and 33% of grappling accuracy. His recent fight was against Alistair Overeem on 16 May 2020 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. However, he lost the fight via second-round TKO.

How Walt Harris Met His Wife?

The 36-year-old has been married to his longtime love Angela Haley for a decade. Walt first met his future wife Angela while he was a basketball player at Jacksonville State University (JSU). The duo had eye-to-eye contact at a car while they stopped at the traffic light.

Walt and Angela dated for nearly seven years and tied the wedding knot on 22 January 2010. They welcomed a son named Asah on 30 June 2006 and a daughter Aylah Kai was born on 16 March 2013. Harris is also a father of Angela’s two children from a previous marriage; Elijah and Aniah Blanchard.

What Happened To His Stepdaughter Aniah Blanchard?

Harris’ stepdaughter Aniah Blanchard was reported missing on 24 October 2019. The reward for the person to find information about her was raised up to $100,000.

However, it was found that Aniah was killed by a gunshot and her remains were found on 25 November 2019 in Macon County, Alabama. The suspected murderer Ibraheem Yazeed is charged with capital murder in the death of Aniah.

Since then, Walt has received immense public support for his family. He has even revealed how he dealt with the death of his stepdaughter and decided not to forgive her murderer.
