Within two months interval, Phil Mickelson’s wife and mother got diagnosed with cancer. Although personal life has tested him many times, he has still bounced to be a family guy and a prolific golfer.

American professional golfer Phil Mickelson has won 44 events on the PGA Tour, including five major championships: three Masters titles in 2004, 2006, and 2010. He also became victorious in the 2005 PGA Championship and 2013 Open Championship.

The player was born as Philip Alfred Mickelson on 16 June 1970 in San Diego, California, to parents, Philip and Mary Mickelson. By profession, his father is a former naval aviator and an airline pilot. Apart from his parents, his other family member includes his sister, Tina Mickelson, to whom he shares an adorable bond.

He went to the University of San Diego High School to complete his graduation in 1988. Phil then got enrolled at Arizona State University in Tempe on a golf scholarship and became the face of amateur golf in the United States. The 49-year-old has a soaring net worth of $375 million from a professional career since 1992. From the very beginning of his career, he won the 1996 World Series of Golf and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 1998. Likewise, he also secured the Colonial National Invitation in 2000 and the Greater Hartford Open in 2001 in 2002.

In 2004, he won his first major championship in his thirteenth year on the PGA Tour in 2004. Also, the player won the Masters Tournament on 11 April 2010. He has secured 2004, 2006, 2009, and 2013 U.S. Open. On 23 November 2018, he won the Capital One’s The Match. From the win, he secured $9,000,000.

Phil Wife’s Battle With Cancer

Besides his astonishing career, Phil relishes great matrimony of more than two decades. His wife’s name is Amy (nee McBride) to whom he walked the wedding aisle in November 1996. Together, the couple shares a son named Evan Samuel Mickelson and two daughters, Sophia Isabel and Amanda Brynn Mickelson.

On 20 May 2009, it was announced that his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. From then, she began treatment with major surgery in the following two weeks. His wife’s cancer was detected in an early stage, and on 6 July 2009, his mother was also detected with breast cancer.
