American professional baseball pitcher, Max Scherzer plays for MLB team, Washington Nationals. He is the recipient of the sixth time All-Star honors for a consecutive five years from 2013 to 2018.

Max Scherzer Bio & Family

The player was born as Maxwell M. Scherzer on 27 July 1984 in Chesterfield, Missouri to parents, Jan (Shirck) and Brad Scherzer. Max only had one younger brother, Alex, who died from suicide in 2012 summer. He went to Parkway Central High School in his hometown.

What’s Wrong With Max’s Eyes?

Max is a patient of heterochromia iridium, where the color of his eyes is different. His right eye is blue, and his left eye is brown. The Tigers had distributed a bobblehead doll depicting Scherzer, with the condition correctly portrayed on 12 June 2011. Four years later, the Nationals unveiled a “delightfully creepy” crop of Scherzer’s eyes, accurately described as blue and brown in 2017 Spring.

Career & Salary

Max started his professional MLB career after the Arizona Diamondbacks picked him in the 2006 draft. Almost three years later the team had no option but to trade him to Detroit Tigers on 9 December 2009. In 2014, his salary playing for Tigers was $15.525 million. A year later, the Tigers got a trade deal for Max to Nationals on 21 January 2015.

A part of his Nationals contract is of seven years worth $222 million today including a signing bonus of $50 million. In early 2015, his contract was reported to be $10 million and $15 million for the next three seasons. As if for now, he gets a hefty paycheck of $35 million a year from 2019 for the next three years.

The player is also set to receive $250,000 for winning a Cy Young, MVP or World Series MVP award as a part of his contract.

Max & His Wife Are Into Philanthropical Work

Max loves philanthropical work, which he does with his wife, Erica May. The pair initially met at the University of Missouri, where both were pitchers. After dating for almost eight years, they went to exchange wedding vows in November 2013.

Four years post their matrimony; they welcomed a daughter named Brooklyn May-Scherzer in November 2017. Max and his wife work for a social cause with the Detroit Tigers Foundation on a program called Scherzer’s Superstars.
