In early 2000, he went to the AAA level and got the fortune to play for the Huron-Perth Lakers of the Minor Hockey Alliance starting in Minor Atom. Likewise, he also played minor midget hockey with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in 2006/2007 season. Subsequently, the other year, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) picked him in the 2007 Draft.

His professional career came up with Colorado Avalanche during the 2008/2009 OHL season. The 28-year-old and his wife, Dayna Douros, are about to celebrate their first marriage anniversary. It was back on 30 June 2018 when the couple decided to exchange their wedding vows.

In the Q/A with NHL.com where he stated,

I was having a day with family and everyone together. I get a call and, yeah, I’m going to St. Louis. It was a big thing in my personal life and then another big chance [in the NHL]. I knew something was going to happen; I just didn’t know where, and it couldn’t have worked out better.

Together, the couple shares only one child as a son named Jameson who was born almost a quarter year before their marriage in 2017 Christmas break.

  • The player grew up playing hockey near his hometown of Varna, Ontario. During the time he had a close association with the Seaforth Stars of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.

  • In the 2008/2009 season, his 50 assists and 66 points in 68 games made him win the Western Conference‘s best penalty killer.
