Schlotterbeck began his youth career from VfR Aalen and Karlsruher SC. Later, he joined SC Freiburg at the age of 18 in 2017.
The six-foot-three-inch made his professional debut for Freiburg against Hertha BSC on 9 March 2019. On 31 July 2020, he was loaned to Union Berlin on a one-year deal. Afterward, he joined Borussia Dortmund on a five-year deal on 2 May 2022.
