MLB Legend Bill Buckner Dies At Age 69!

Bill Buckner’s family passed the news of his demise via a statement which read,

After battling the disease of Lewy Body Dementia, Bill Buckner passed away early the morning of May 27th surrounded by his family.

Bill fought with courage and grit as he did all things in life. Our hearts are broken but we are at peace knowing he is in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bill recorded an impressive sports career during his playing years between 1969 and 1990. He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, California Angels, and Kansas City Royals.

The baseball great is mostly remembered for his infamous fielding error which he made in the tenth inning of Game 6 while playing for the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets.

During his more than a two-decade-long career, Bill recorded the stats of .289 batting average with 1,077 runs, 498 doubles, 49 triples, and 174 home runs from 2,517 starts.

When he lost his battle with life on Memorial Day, Bill was with his wife, Jody, two daughters, Brittany and Christen, and son, Bobby.

Bill Buckner’s Bio, Career, Net Worth

The legendary baseball player was born as William Joseph Buckner on 14 December 1949 in Vallejo, California, the United States. He later grew up in American Canyon, California alongside his brothers, Jim and Robert, and sister Jan Crew.

Bill graduated from Napa High School in 1968 where he also played on the school’s baseball and football teams. He then made his professional baseball debut playing for Los Angeles Dodgers on 21 September 1969. His last stint in the baseball field was a return to the Boston Red Sox in 1990 as a free agent.

Following his retirement from baseball, Bill moved with his family to Idaho. There he also invested in real estate in the Boise area. Later on 4 January 2011, he was named the manager of the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League.

The MLB great amassed around $8 Million during his professional baseball career. He earned around $2.8 Million in total salary.
