Born to an athlete family, Kyla Ross has achieved much for her country and individually. However, the young talent decided to retire at age 19 in 2016 revealing her interesting plan.

A retired American artistic gymnast, Kyla Ross represented the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team. She was a member of the gold-medal-winning U.S. team at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Kyla Briana Ross was born on 24 October 1996 to an athlete family in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is the eldest daughter of former athlete Jason Ross and Kiana Ross. Her father played college football and baseball at the University of Hawai’i and her mother worked in the hotel industry.

She has two younger siblings; a sister named Mckenna Ross and a brother named Kayne Ross. Her 5-foot-10-inch sister played volleyball at the University of Hawai’i from 2016 to 2018. Meanwhile, her brother plays baseball at Aliso Niguel High School.

Just after her birth, Kyla’s family moved from Hawaii to California. There, she was enrolled at Gym-Max, where she met another gymnast McKayla Maroney. She attended Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, California. After graduating from high school in 2015, she committed to the University of California, Los Angeles to compete in NCAA gymnastics.

Why Kyla Ross Retired From Elite Gymnastics?

Kyla became qualified as a junior elite gymnast at the Metroplex Challenge in February 2009. Meanwhile, she was named to the 2012 Summer Olympic squad, nicknamed the Fierce Five, which won the gold medal in the team competition. She contributed scores of 14.933 on uneven bars and 15.133 on the balance beam in the team final.

Ross was a member of the gold-medal-winning U.S. team at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Similarly, she is the 2013 world all-around, uneven bars and balance beam silver medalist and bronze medalist in the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

However, in February 2016, she announced her retirement via her Twitter account.

Kyla decided that she would not compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, she revealed her plans on competing in collegiate gymnastics for the Bruins program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

What Is She Doing Now?

In September 2016, Ross joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics program. Since then, she was named eleven times as an All-American, earning first-team regular-season honors on bars and beam in 2017.

Kyla became the 11th NCAA gymnast to achieve a “Gym Slam”, having earned a perfect 10 score on all four apparatuses. Furthermore, she became the first gymnast in NCAA history to record two Gym Slams in the same season. Currently, she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in cell/cellular and molecular biology at UCLA.

Justin, 24 played football as a running back at UCLA for two seasons. Well, he graduated from the university with a degree in political science and government in 2018. As of now, he serves as the enterprise account executive at Oracle, joining the software company since 2019.
