Highsmith was born to American parents on 19 April 2000 in Lakewood, Washington, United States. His birth name is Joseph W Highsmith.

Joe made his professional debut on the PGA TOUR Canada circuit in 2022. A year later, he joined the Korn Ferry Tour and had his best results, a tie for 3rd at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship and a runner-up finish at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.
After finishing 10th in the 2022 PGA Tour University Ranking, he earned his first PGA Tour card for the 2024 season. His first PGA Tour title came in his second year after he won the 2025 Cognizant Classic.
Highsmith will be making his Master’s debut and second major championship start in August 2025.
