The athlete was born as Heston Sawyer Kjerstad on 12 February 1999) in Amarillo, Texas. His parents, Jody and Dave Kjerstand own and operate Amarillo’s Water Still since 1989. Besides his parents, his other family includes his two elder brothers, Dex and Reid, and a sister named McCall.

The 21-year-old became the second overall pick during the 2020 MLB draft. He got the fortune to play for the Orioles in the upcoming season of the biggest baseball league across the globe. 

Before MLB, in his high school junior season, Heston batted .477 with 32 RBIs. To which he became the recipient of the District 3-5A Most Valuable Player and first-team All-State. In his senior year, he held the name of the first team All-State and District 3-5A Most Valuable Player. During the 2017 MLB Draft and in the 36th round, he got drafted by the Seattle Mariners but Heston chose to play college baseball at Arkansas instead.

At Razorbacks, he started as a starting outfielder. Over there, he batted .332 with 30 extra-base hits, 14 home runs, 58 RBIs and got the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Year recognition. He then got to ally with the Team USA Collegiate National Baseball Team and batted .395 in 14 games.
