A native of Syracuse, New York, he was raised by his parents there. His father is Jim Roy, and his mother is Cheryl Roy.

Kevin played collegiate golf at Long Beach State University for four seasons. There, he was named the 2012 first team all-Big West and was the Big West Conference Golfer of the Month in February 2012. Additionally, he also helped Long Beach State win five tournaments as a team, which set a single-season school record.
After turning professional in 2012, he competed on satellite tours and the PGA Tour Latinoamerica. He first earned the PGA Tour card for 2023 after finishing 24th on the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list.
Roy has competed in more than 72 PGA Tour events as of 2026. Recently, he finished third in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic in May 2026. He has recorded two top-three finishes, two top-five finishes, and five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour.
