Dylan’s mother Caryn is a breast cancer survivor. Moreover, she has lost the use of her legs after suffering from transverse myelitis. She is partially paralyzed and now sits in a wheelchair.

Dylan attended Elk Grove High School in his hometown Elk Grove, California. There he played baseball under his father for four years.
The 6-foot-2-inch was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals 33rd overall in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft. After signing his contract, he began his professional career with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals.
Moreover, he played with the Peoria Chiefs for the 2017 and 2018 seasons and was promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals. In 2019, he played with the Springfield Cardinals and was promoted to the Memphis Redbirds in August that year.
On 15 August 2020, Carlson was promoted to the major leagues. On the same day, he made his MLB debut against the Chicago White Sox.
