Dawson used to race Mini-Dwarf race cars in San Diego, California, at the age of five. Afterward, he moved to Mooresville, North Carolina, and began racing in the INEX Bandolero Series.
In 2014, he moved to Legend Cars, and his first career Legends victory was at Millbridge Speedway dirt track on 7 May 2014.
Moreover, Cram began racing Legends cars, Super Trucks, and late models in the Whelen All-American Series in 2017. He served as a mechanic for the No. 6 NASCAR Xfinity Series team of JD Motorsports in the year 2020.
In the same year, he purchased Long Motorsports and ran under the Cram Racing Enterprises banner. He now competes full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
