The Chicago Bears drafted him in the third round with the 73rd overall pick in the draft. Montgomery made his NFL debut in Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers. There, he rushed for 18 yards on six attempts and caught one pass for 27 yards as the Bears lost 10–3. Similarly, in week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he rushed 14 times for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 22–14 loss, which was his first game with multiple rushing touchdowns of his career.
