Corey Ballentine Shot Hours After The NFL Draft!

Following a Saturday night draft to the New York Giants, Corey Ballentine was shot in central Topeka, Kansas in the early Sunday morning. The off-campus shooting sadly killed junior defensive back, Dwane Simmons.

Just some hours old to the NFL platform, Corey Ballentine was the victim of the off-campus shooting on Sunday, 28 April. The fatal incident took the life of his Washburn University teammate, Dwane Simmons, age 23.

New York Giants addressed the situation via their Twitter account stating that their new signing was recovering in the hospital.

Besides, the Washburn president Dr. Jerry Farley passed the letter to the school community writing,

Any time we lose a student it is a sad occasion, but it is particularly poignant to lose a student through such a senseless act.

This was a terrible way to end a day which should have been a celebration and a day to look forward to Dwane’s upcoming year at Washburn and the beginning of Corey’s professional career.

Corey was picked by the Giants as the 180th overall selection in the sixth round of the draft. While becoming the sixth Washburn player ever drafted, Corey picked up his Twitter account to express his emotions.

Corey Ballentine Short Bio: Age, Career

Corey Ballentine, age 23, was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica to the African parents. He later moved to the United States at the age of six and made Topeka, Kansas as his home. 6 feet tall in height, Corey attended Shawnee Heights High School where he also commenced his early football career.

Corey began his college football career in 2015 as part of the Washburn Ichabods football team. The cornerback recorded 186 tackles with 113 solo, 4 forced fumbles, and 5 interceptions across his career from 2015 to 2018. He was also named the small college defensive player of the year in 2018.
