Melber, with a height of 5 feet 11 inches, attended Jewish Day School in his hometown. He then went to the University of Michigan, where he received an A.B. degree in political science. Meanwhile, he earned a J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he worked as an editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy.

After graduation, Ari started working as an attorney. He practiced law at a major New York firm, specializing in First Amendment, reporter’s privilege, and copyright litigation from 2009 to 2013. He also wrote political columns for various news outlets like The Nation, The Atlantic, Reuters, and Politico. In April 2013, he joined MSNBC and was named the new co-host of MSNBC’s “The Cycle.” He became the Chief Legal Correspondent of the network in 2015 and started covering the Justice Department, FBI, and Supreme Court. Meanwhile, in 2017 he became NBC Legal Analyst for The Today Show and NBC programming. Besides, he has appeared on numerous shows such as The Rachel Maddow Show and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.
