The 24-years-of-age player was born as Alvin Mentian Kamara on 25 July 1995 in Norcross, Georgia, the United States. He and his elder sister, Garmal K. Momolu, were raised by a Liberian mother, Adama Kamara.

His mother, Adama, was born and bred in Liberia. She somewhat found her feet when the first Liberian war broke out. It was difficult for her and her two children to survive in the United States of America as they had to struggle a lot. Thankfully, Alvin found passion in the sports and now is making a living out of it to support his family.

Standing tall at a height of 5 feet and 10 inches (1.78 meters), Alvin attended Norcross High School in his hometown. Immediately, he was regular with the high school football team. Later on, he switched to the University of Alabama for college football but struggled due to a knee injury. He then transferred to the Hutchinson Community College and played a season before moving to the University of Tennessee.

With the college stats of 1,294 rushing yards and 683 receiving yards over two seasons with Tennessee, Alvin entered the NFL tournament as the third-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2017 NFL Draft. He penned a four year, $3,857,772 contract with the Saints that also includes a signing bonus of $972,772.

Alvin ringed his professional debut in the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on 11 September 2017. In his first start, he recorded seven rushes for 18 yards, four receptions for 20 yards, and one kickoff return for 26 yards. He ended his rookie season with 728 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns to go along with 81 receptions for 826 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns.

On top of that, he had a compelling 2018 season followed by a well set 2019 season. He recorded 883 rushing yards with 14 rushing touchdowns in 2018 and 797 rushing yards with 5 rushing touchdowns in 2019.
