Burel was born to French parents on 24 March 2001 in Rennes, France. Her father is Vincent Burel and her mother is Stephanie Burel.
The athlete was raised by her parents in Rennes and later she relocated to Angers with her family. She was just 14 years old when she left her family for Paris to train at INSEP, the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance.
The middle of three daughters of her parents, she is accompanied by an elder sister named Lola Burel and a younger sister named Jade Burel. Jade is seven years younger than her.
Meanwhile, Lola serves as a customer manager at a banking service named Caisse d’Epargne Bretagne Pays de Loire Permanent. She is a 2020 graduate of the University of South Brittany with a degree in Banking.

Clara started playing tennis at the age of six with her family. She had an astonishing junior career, achieving the highest rank as junior world No. 1 on 29 October 2018.
Moreover, she became the girls’ champion at the ITF Junior Masters after she defeated Columbian Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the final. In 2018, she won two silver medals at the Youth Summer Olympics and reached the junior singles final at the Australian Open, and the US Open in the same year.

Burel made her Grand Slam debut as a wildcard entrant in the Australian Open in 2019 but lost in the first round to Spanish Carla Suárez Navarro. Similarly, she made her French Open debut in 2020.
In 2021, she earned qualification for the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships. She reached her first WTA final at the Ladies Open Lausanne and in 2022, she recorded her first WTA 1000 win at the Miami Open against qualifier Magdalena Fręch.
