He is among the two children of his parents, Hugo Lafreniere and Nathalie Bertrand. Alexis has an elder sister named Lori-jane Lafreniere. He holds Canadian nationality and belongs to the Caucasian white ethnicity.

In his rookie season for the club, he recorded 42 goals and 38 assists from 60 matches. Similarly, the player had the stats of 37 goals and 68 assists from 61 games at the end of the 2018-19 season.
