Jim Acosta is an American journalist, who has gained experiences, working in numerous media networks. He now serves the chief White House correspondent on CNN, currently covering the Trump administration.

Abilio James Acosta was born on 17 April 1971 in Washington, D.C. He is a son of A.J., an immigrant from Cuba and Barbara Acosta. His father moved as a refugee from Cuba in 1963, three weeks prior to the Cuban Missile Crisis to the United States at the age of age 11 and was raised in Virginia.

His father worked as a clerk and cashier at Safeway stores in the Washington area for 40 years. Similarly, his mother used to work as a bartender and waitress. However, his parents divorced when he was five years old, and he was raised by a single mother. He has a younger sister in his family. He possesses mixed ethnicity as his father is Cuban-American and his mother is of Irish and Czech descent. Acosta is proud of his Cuban heritage and often attends events held by the Cuban American community.

Jim graduated from Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia, in 1989. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, with a minor in political science, from James Madison University at the age of 22.

Acosta began his journalism career with WMAL-AM radio in Washington. He then left the radio in 1994 and began to for WTTG-TV as a desk assistant. He worked as a reporter and substitute anchor at WBIR-TV from 1995 to 1998. He served as a reporter for KTVT-TV from 1998 to 2000 and for WBBM-TV from 2000 to 2001. He served as a correspondent for CBS News from 2003 to 2007.

Jim joined CNN in April 2007 and was involved in covering the 2008 presidential campaigns of Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Moreover, as a national political correspondent, he covered the 2012 presidential campaign of Republican nominee Mitt Romney. As of 9 January 2018, he serves as the chief White House correspondent of the network.

Jim married Sharon Mobley Stow in the year 1994. The private wedding ceremony was held at Wye of Carmichel United Methodist Church in Queenstown, Maryland. Sharon, aged 48 is a registered nurse, working at hospitals in Maryland.

The couple first met in college while attending James Madison University and dated for a while before their marriage. They resided in a three-bedroom home in Maryland that they bought in 2008 for $660,000. However, they decided to separate after more than two decades in 2017 and later got divorced. They are the parents of three children; a son named Peter Acosta, a daughter named Hartley Acosta and another daughter.
