What Happened To Tom Lockyer?
Lockyer suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch during the Premier League game vs Bournemouth on 16 December 2023. The game was stopped and then abandoned by the referee with the scoreline at 1–1.
The Luton captain was then carried off on a stretcher to a standing ovation from both sets of fans at the Vitality stadium. He was said to be “alert and responsive in the tunnel”, according to the BBC.
Earlier, he collapsed on the pitch within minutes of the start of the Championship play-off final against Coventry at Wembley back in May 2023. He celebrated the club’s promotion to the Premier League from the hospital bed.

Lockyer was born Thomas Alun Lockyer on 3 December 1994. He was raised by his parents in Cardiff, Wales.
The player’s father Steve Lockyer is a football fan and played a supportive role in his son’s career. His parents and family members often attend his games to cheer him on.
Tom is one of the three children in the family named James Lockyer and Adam Lockyer. Adam earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering and Associate of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Exeter.

Joined Luton Town In 2020
Lockyer began his early career at Radyr Rangers before joining Cardiff City at the age of 11. After five years at the club, he was released as Cardiff deemed him to be too small to play his preferred position of centre-back.
In 2011, he signed a scholarship for Bristol Rovers and made his debut in 3–0 win over Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium on 12 January 2013. Moreover, he signed his first professional contract in May 2013.
Tom has made over 200 appearances for Bristol Rovers and left the club following the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2018–19 season. He then joined Charlton Athletic, who were newly promoted to the Championship on a two-year contract on 28 June 2019.
After his contract expiration, he joined another Championship club, Luton Town on a free transfer on 1 September 2020. After two weeks of joining, he made his debut for the club in a 1–0 EFL Cup second-round victory over Reading.
