Alphonso Boyle Davies was born on 2 November 2000, making him 19 years of age. He is the eldest of three children and has a younger sister Ruth and a younger brother. He was raised by Liberian parents Debeah Davies and Victoria Davies in Buduburam, a refugee camp in Gomoa East District, Ghana. His parents lived there after fleeing their homeland during the Second Liberian Civil War.

The 5-foot-11-inch signed a first-team contract with the Whitecaps, making him the youngest active player in Major League Soccer, and the third-youngest player to have signed an MLS contract. He made is MLS debut on 16 July 2016 and played in eight MLS games, four Canadian Championship games, and three games in the CONCACAF Champions League in the 2016 season. He became the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Player of the Year on 24 October 2017.

In January 2019, Alphonso joined Bayern Munich from Whitecaps on a transfer fee of $13.5 million. He made his Bundesliga debut against VfB Stuttgart on 27 January 2019. He won the Budesliga title with Bayern and was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2019–20.

On the internaltional level, he represents Canada men’s national soccer team, joining the team in 2017. He scored two goals in a 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against French Guiana, making him the youngest player to score for the Canadian men’s national team, and the youngest to score at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
