Monte grew up in Flint, Michigan, where he attended Flint Beecher High School. There, he played high school basketball for the Beecher Buccaneers for four years. He was the leader of Buccaneers in scoring, assists, and steals in all four seasons and even led Flint Beecher to back-to-back Class C Michigan state titles in 2012 and 2013.

After high school, he committed to the Iowa State University to play college basketball. He graduated from Iowa with a major in liberal studies at the age of 22. He stands at a height of 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 meters) and has maintained a bodyweight of 183 lbs (83 kg).

On 23 October 2017, he was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. Morris made his NBA debut against the Detroit Pistons on 12 December 2017.  As a Point guard, he wears the jersey number #11 for the Nuggets.
