Lamar began to play college football for the University of Louisville in 2015. In the first game of his sophomore year, he set a school record for total touchdowns with eight, all of them in the first half against the Charlotte 49ers. Moreover, he played in 13 games in his junior year and had stats of finishing with 3,660 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Jackson was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round with the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut against the Buffalo Bills, finishing with 24 passing yards and 39 rushing yards. A year later, he became the unanimous NFL MVP in 2019 with some great stat like the 324 years and five touchdowns which was his career-high records. During the postseason, he ran 20 times for 143 yards to record the first athlete to throw over 300 yards and rush of more than 100 yards in a playoff game.

For the season, he became the recipient to be voted as the MVP also securing the second player in history after Tom Brady to be voted unanimously. Moreover, he also became the second-youngest player to win, behind only Jim Brown. For the 2020 season, he chose the quarterback position for the Pro Bowl in Orlando, Florida. At the time, he threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns with one interception and was named the offensive Most Valuable Player.

In June 2018, Lamar signed a four year rookie contract with the Baltimore Ravens worth $9,471,652. It includes a $4,968,472 signing bonus, $7,575,059 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,367,912.
