Born as Jason Dean “J.D.” Gibbs, the NACAR team and the racers still mourn his death. With an impactful career of racing and managing his team, J.D.’s career into the circuit started back in the early ’90s.

Late J.D. Gibbs was a former professional stock car racing driver. Not only that he used to take charge of a racing team named Joe Gibbs Racing, founded by his father, Joe Gibbs.

J. D. Gibbs was born on 21 February 1969 in Davidson, North Carolina. Speaking about his family, his father, Joe Gibbs led the assistant coach role at the University of Southern California. On the other hand, his dad founded an American car racing team named under him, Joe Gibbs Racing in July 1991. Similarly, his mother, Pat Gibbs is a previous Patricia Escobar. As the eldest child in the family, J.D. has a brother named Coy; a former NASCAR driver and assistant coach with the Washington Redskins.

J.D. had gone to Oakton High school followed by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia to complete his education.

What Was The Reason Of J.D’s Death?

The co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing lost his battle with life on 11 January 2019. He had several complications including a brain illness termed degenerative neurological disease. Joe Gibbs Racing released a statement to confirm their owner’s death in their social handles.

The team thanked all the well-wishers of the late racer to regard the seclusion of their family. J.D. illness was first noticed back in March 2015 while serving as president of JGR.

The sad demise of J.D. not only saddened the NASCAR world but even other sports as many. The American Football team, Washington Redkins owner Dan Snyder with wife, Tanya released a statement on J.D.’s death which says,

“Tanya and I are heartbroken for the J.D. Gibbs family. For anyone who had the honor and privilege to know J.D., he was instantly recognized as a champion in life and sports. On behalf of the entire Redskins organization, alumni and Redskins Nation, our hearts, prayers and love are with our Coach Gibbs and his wonderful family.”

Similarly, the NASCAR family with their Chairman, Jim France extended their support in the hardest moment to the family in a statement,

“We were privileged to watch J.D. Gibbs grow within the sport, displaying an endearing personality, a keen eye for talent and the strong business acumen that helped grow Joe Gibbs Racing into a dominant NASCAR team. The NASCAR family has lost a truly special member. On behalf of NASCAR and the France family, I extend my deepest condolences to Joe Gibbs, Pat, Melissa, Coy, and the entire Gibbs family.”

Career & Net Worth

The significant coverage of J.D’s increasing net worth is from car racing and its events. He added considerable revenue to boost his bank balance as the manager of JGR since 1991. Subsequently, he also fulfilled the duty of a racer between 1997 and 2002 and competed in combined 13 Xfinity and Truck Series.

According to the February 2018 reports of Forbes, the JGR team value is around $220 million.

Late J.D. got married to Melissa (née Miller). Despite knowing the name of his wife, the adequate details regarding their marital history is yet to be known. Together the pair has four sons named Joe Jackson, William Miller, Jason Dean II, and Zachary Taylor.
