Jimmy signed with the Miami Heat via a sign and trade with the 76ers in a four-team trade on 6 July 2019. Later on 9 December 2019, he was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week after he averaged 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Moreover, he scored a career-high  18 rebounds, along with 20 points and 11 assists in a 135–121 overtime win against the Atlanta Hawks on 10 December 2019.

He previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers from 12 November 2018 to 2019. Prior, he spent a year playing for Minnesota Timberwolves in 2017 and his early professional career start was with Chicago Bulls in 2011.

Besides that, his admiration towards Pretty Little Liars actress, Shay Mitchell is praiseworthy and was rumored of spending most of their time together back in 2016. Jimmy also dated the native Polynesian native Charmaine Piula; a marketing spokesperson for Auto-Owners Insurance in 2015. Sooner or later, the couple parted ways citing their career preferences.
