Gary Dajaun Trent Jr. was born on 18 January 1999 in Columbus, Ohio, United States. He is the son of a retired professional basketball player Gary Trent and his then-girlfriend Roxanne Holt. His father played for the NBA teams the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, and Minnesota Timberwolves and also competed in Greece and Italy. Moreover, he won the gold medal on the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival North Team.

Gary was raised by his father Gary and his wife Natalia Trent after they gained custody of him. At the age of nine, he moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota, with his parents. He spent most of his childhood with his father and sometimes met with his biological mother. He has three brothers; Garyson, Grayson, and Graydon Trent.

Trent attended Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. As a top rated basketball player, he was honored with Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year and first-team Minneapolis All Metro honors. Later, he was transferred to Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, California.  Following his senior high school year, he was selected to play in both 2017 Jordan Brand Classic and 2017 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.

After high school, he committed to Duke University to play college football in 2016. There, he played for the Duke Blue Devils for a season. Meanwhile, he was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the week in his college year. He stands at a height of 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters) and has a body weight of 209 lbs (95 kg).

His NBA Career; Portland Trail Blazers

Gary was drafted by the Sacramento Kings on 21 June 2018 with the 37th overall selection in the 2018 NBA draft. Afterward, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on 6 July 2018. On the same day, he made his Summer League debut against the Utah Jazz.

Meanwhile, on 21 January 2019, the Blazers assigned Trent to the Texas Legends for an NBA G League. He now holds impressive stats in his name after the NBA regular season restart in Orlando following the Covid-19 outbreak.
