After playing with five different NBA teams and a career of over a decade, Allen Iverson announced his retirement in mid-2013. He also had a hiatus 19 years of marriage that was settled through reconciliation after divorce.

Former NBA star Allen Iverson’s last playing team was Besiktas. With five NBA team and playing career of 17 years, he won NBA All-Star for eleven consecutive years from 2000 to 2011.

The former player was born as Allen Ezail Iverson on 7 June 1975 in Hampton, Virginia, to parents, Ann and Allen Broughton. His parents separated into which his mother raised him as a single parent from the age of 15. Allen’s brother, Kuran Iverson, played Division I basketball for the University of Rhode Island and in the NBA G-League. Kuran now plays in New Zealand for the Manawatu Jets.

Allen was a quarterback for the school football team at Bethel High School and then attended Georgetown College from 1994 to 1996. His height is 6 feet 0 inch (1.83 m) tall and weighs around 75 kg.

The 44-year-old net worth is $1 million from professional playing career from 1996 until 2011. At the 1996 NBA draft, the Philadelphia 76ers picked him, and during the 1999-2000 season, both the party agreed to sign a $70 million contract of six years. Ten years later, he went to Denver Nuggets and played the first game with the team on 23 December 2006. Surprisingly, he returned to 76ers during the 2009-2010 season.

He had agreed upon a year non-guaranteed contract to play for 76ers at the league minimum salary. A part of the agreement would make Allen earn a minimum wage of $1.3 million. However, a year later, he moved to play for Besiktas, signing a two-year contract worth $4 million on 26 October 2010. In early January 2013, he was offered to play for the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League but declined. Nine months later, he announced his official retirement on 30 October 2013. The reason was cited as he lost his desire to play.

Allen & Wife: 19 Years of Hiatus Marriage!

The former Besiktas star started dating his high school sweetheart Tawanna Turner. After knowing each other for some year, the pair decided to walk the wedding aisle on 3 August 2001 at The Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees, New Jersey. Together, the couple shares five kids. The elder daughter Tiaura Iverson was born in 1995. Allen Iverson II in 1998, Isaiah Rahsaan Iverson on 8 August 2003, Messiah Lauren Iverson in 2005 and Dream Alijha Iverson in 2008.

Almost a decade later, it was his wife who filed for divorce on 2 March 2010. She even sought custody of their children, as well as child support and alimony payments. The pair reconciled their difference and were back together a few months after their divorce was finalized in 2013.

In his 2016 interview with Sports Philadelphia,

I think I’m so much more settled. I’ve been with the same woman for 25 years now. I’ve been through a divorce three years ago, we were back together not even a month after the divorce, and I had to realize, basically, she was trying to get my attention any way she could. She was at the end of the rope. There’s nothing else I can do but show him how serious I am. So I’m so much more dedicated to my girl, and I’m there for my kids more than I was ever there.

  • In his junior year, he was able to lead both teams to Virginia state championships, and also earn The Associated Press High School Player of the Year award.

  • The former player was involved in an altercation with several other patrons at a bowling alley in Hampton, Virginia, on 14 February 1993, to which he got jailed.
  • Allen signed a contract worth $50 million with Reebok in 1996.
  • Iverson signed in 1996 when the Sixers took him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft.
