American professional baseball pitcher Devin Smeltzer currently plays for the Major League Baseball (MLB) team the Minnesota Twins. He was traded to the Twins from the Los Angeles Dodgers in July 2018.

Devin Paul Smeltzer was born on 7 September 1995 to parents Tim and Christina Smeltzer. He grew up with his family in Voorhees, New Jersey. At the early age of nine, the doctors found a tumor the size of a grapefruit in his bladder. It is known as pelvic rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of cancer, which was treated with surgery and chemotherapy. The cancer was officially in remission by 2012.

The 6 feet 3 inch Devin attended Bishop Eustace Preparatory School and began to play for the school’s baseball team. Later, he got enrolled at Florida Gulf Coast University to play college baseball for the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles.

MLB Career; Stats, Trade, Minnesota Twins

Smeltzer was selected by Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB draft. He played for teams such the Arizona Dodgers and Tulsa Drillers before his trade to the Minnesota Twins in July 2018.

Meanwhile, he played for the Double-A Southern League team the Chattanooga Lookouts. There, his stats were 33 games (14 starts) between Tulsa and Chattanooga 5-5 with a 4.52 ERA. Moreover, Devin played with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos of the Southern League and later promoted to the Rochester Red Wings of the Class AAA International League.

On 28 May 2019, the Twins promoted him to the major leagues. He made a major league debut against the Milwaukee Brewers on the same day. There, he had significant career stat; three hits and no runs, while striking out seven in six innings in a 5-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
