Marc Martinez Blake was born on 9 January 1994 to parents Edmon Martinez and Carrisa Martinez. He grew up with three siblings; Hailley, Madison and Logan Martinez in Tucson, Arizona.

Martinez pursued his early education at Canyon del Oro High School in Oro Valley. He received scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Northern Arizona, Oregon, and San Diego State. However, he chose Stanford University to play college football. He stands at a height of 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 meters) and weighs 237 lbs (108 kg).

Blake began to play with Stanford Cardinal in 2012. He was named an Academic All-Pac-12 honorable mention at the end of his sophomore year in 2013.

Martinez was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round (131st overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He made is NFL season debut in the season-opener at the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he recorded six combined tackles in their 27–23 victory. In 2018, he received an overall grade of 74.8 from Pro Football Focus, which ranked 17th among all qualifying linebackers.
