The 22-years-of-age player was born as Roquan Daevon Smith on 8 April 1997 in Marshallville, Georgia, the United States. He is the son of his American parents, Roderick Smith and Shaquana Thomas. His father, Roderick worked as a contractor in Malcon while his mother, Shaquana was a staff at Fort Valley State University. He grew up alongside his three other siblings, Rod Smith, Tyanna, and Omar Richards.

About 6 feet (1.83 meters) tall in height, Roquan attended Macon County High School in Montezuma, Georgia. There, he initiated his football career. Later on, he joined the University of Georgia and committed to play college football for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Career Stats, Contract

After some promising stats with the Bulldogs, Roquan became eligible to play in the National Football League. Eventually, he was selected as an eighth overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Roquan’s contract was delayed due to a contract dispute between the Bears and his agency, CAA Football.  Finally on 14 August 2018, he penned a fully guaranteed four-year, $18.47 million deal with the Bears that included a signing bonus of $11.51 million.

The player’s NFL debut came in Week 1 of the 2018 season against the Green Bay Packers on NBC Sunday Night Football. Later in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills, Roquan recorded 13 tackles to give his side a comfortable 41-9 win. He finished his first season with 122 tackles, five sacks, five passes defended, and one interception.

As of 2019 season, Roquan recorded a team-high 13 tackles as the Bears defeated the Denver Broncos with a 16-14 scoreline in the Week 2 fixture. However, Roquan was placed on injured reserve on 9 December 2019 after suffering a torn pectoral in Week 14.
