When it comes to LGBTQ rights, there are plenty of people who still have a lot to learn. In fact, according to a recent study by GLAAD, only 49% of Americans aged 18-34 who identify as straight said they were “very” or “somewhat” comfortable with LGBTQ people.

This is in stark contrast to the 82% of those over 65 who identified as straight and reported feeling comfortable around LGBTQ people. There is a lot of progress to be made when it comes to educating younger generations on acceptance and equality.
Luckily, many celebrities are working hard to promote understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ community. These celebs use their platforms to speak out about issues that matter to them, and they use their influence for good. Here are just a few examples:
Trevor Noah
Even though he’s only been on the air for a few years, Trevor Noah has already made a huge impact with his late-night show, The Daily Show. Trevor is biracial and grew up in South Africa during apartheid, so he has a unique perspective on issues of race and discrimination. He frequently uses his platform to discuss these topics, and he isn’t afraid to tackle tough subjects head-on.
Trevor has also spoken out about LGBTQ rights on several occasions. In 2017, he spoke out against the Trump administration’s rollback of transgender protections, and he frequently has LGBTQ guests on his show. This was a huge deal at the time, and it helped pave the way for more open and honest representation of LGBTQ people on television.
In addition to her work on television, Ellen is also an active philanthropist. She’s donated to numerous LGBTQ organizations over the years, and she even started her foundation, TheEllenDeGeneresCamp Foundation, which provides free camp experiences to underserved kids.
Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox is a transgender actress and LGBTQ activist best known for her role on the hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. In addition to acting, Laverne is also an outspoken advocate for transgender rights. She’s dedicated much of her time to raising awareness about the unique challenges that trans people face, and she’s also worked to combat transphobia and discrimination in Hollywood.
In 2014, Time magazine named Laverne one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and she was the first openly transgender person to be featured on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine. Laverne’s work is helping to break down barriers and create more opportunities for trans people in the entertainment industry.
