Golden Globe-Winning Actress Peggy Lipton Dies At Age 72!

American actress/model best known for ABC series The Mod Squad and David Lynch’s Twin Peaks is no more with us. The deceased actress’ daughters passed sad news of her failed battle with cancer on 11 May 2019.

Peggy Lipton’s daughters, Kidada and Rashida Jones announced of their mother’s unfortunate demise via an official statement. The statement read,

We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer today.

The sufferers further added,

She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her. We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us.

Peggy started battling with colon cancer in 2004. Though she was treated initially, the daunting disease finally haunted her some 15 years later.

She marked remarkable fame in the showbiz courtesy of her award-winning performance in ABC counterculture television series The Mod Squad. Peggy bagged a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress-Television Series Drama appearing as Julie Barnes from 1968 to 1973.

The bonafide actress married musician and producer Quincy Jones in 1974. However, the couple parted ways in 1989 after welcoming both of their daughters: Kidada Jones (age 45) and Rashida Jones (age 43).

While Peggy took her final gasp, she was survived by both of her daughters.

After settling in New York, Peggy Lipton first took her step in the modeling field. At a young age of 15, she became a Ford Agency model and basked in early career success. Right after she moved to Los Angeles, Peggy signed a contract with Universal Pictures.

Peggy’s television debut came at an age of 19 in the NBC sitcom, The John Forsythe Show. Later, she marked appearances in handful TV projects including The Road West (1967), The Mod Squad (1968-1973), and Twin Peaks (1990-1991). Her big screen appearances include True Identity (1991), The Postman (1997), and When in Rome (2010).

Peggy Lipton was born as Margaret Ann “Peggy” Lipton on 30 August 1946 in New York City, the United States. She was raised by her upper-middle-class Jewish parents, Harold Lipton (father), a corporate lawyer, and Rita Benson (mother), an artist.  

Peggy grew up with her brothers, Robert and Kenneth on Long Island. At first, she attended Lawrence Junior High School and later the Professional Children’s School. Subsequently, in 1964, Peggy moved to Los Angeles with her family. There, she started exploring meditation and yoga.

Before sharing the wedding bliss with Quincy Jones, Peggy was romantically involved with English singer-songwriter Paul McCartney. Besides, she had a series of relationships with alcoholic, abusive, and married men during the late 1960s and the early 1970s.
