The journalist’s father is Jim Nelson but there are not many details about her mother. It is known that her mother is a heart patient and underwent her third heart surgery in January 2021.
Nelson’s parents have been married for more than 35 years. One of the two children in the family, she has a brother named Bryan Nelson.
