Mathias was born as the youngest son of Danish parents on 8 February 1999. His father is Ole Gidsel and his mother is Helle Gidsel.
Ole is a banker who serves as a business manager at Skjern Bank, a Denmark-based regional bank. Similarly, his mother Helle works in the sports industry in event and marketing at the Danish Handball League team Skjern Handball.

Both his parents played an important role in his career. He has an elder brother named Christian Gidsel. Christian works as a Sales Support Specialist at Tetra Pak Filtration Solutions in Aarhus, Middle Jutland, Denmark.
The player comes from an athlete family who has played football and even ran a half marathon at his time. He spent his childhood with his parents and brother in Skjern, Denmark.
His Career Journey
Gidsel began his youth career with the Skjern Håndbold team in his hometown. He played with the Skjern Håndbold’s U12 team as a junior.
Moreover, spent his junior years with the GOG Håndbold team. In 2017, he made his professional debut with the team in the Danish Handball League.
In August 2021, it was announced that he will join the Handball-Bundesliga side Füchse Berlin. Following his significant performances, he signed a contract extension, keeping with the team until 2028.
Mathias made his debut for Denmark participating in the 2020 Olympics. Likewise, he represented Denmark, winning the title at the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship in Egypt. He is now representing his country in the 2022 European Men’s Handball Championship.
