Marcel Ruiz Pérez was born on 9 July 2003 to parents Carlitos Ruiz Ruiz and Mariem Perez Riera. His father is a photographer and filmmaker. He got a BFA in Filmmaking from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Meanwhile, his mother is a producer and director for a new documentary for the American Masters PBS series on the life of Rita Moreno.

Ruiz grew up in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico with a younger sister named Lucia. His family moved to the USA when he was nine years old and eventually settled in Los Angeles, California.

Standing at a height of 5 feet 9 inches, he is currently pursuing his high school education. He recently completed his 10^th grade in the summer of 2019.

Marcel began his career as a child model in Puerto Rico and appeared in commercials for several advertising campaigns. Earlier, he appeared in the television documentary, De Puerto Rico para el Mundo in 2016. He guest-starred in the role of Popeye in the crime drama series Snowfall.

Ruiz made his acting breakthrough at the age of 14 in 2017 after being cast as Alejandro “Alex” Alvarezin the comedy series, One Day at a Time. Moreover, he made his movie debut from the 2019 drama Breakthrough, portraying the character of John Smith.

Well, the fans have noticed the matchup between Marcel and his recent on-screen girlfriend Raquel Justice on One Day at a Time. However, in real life, the 16-year-old is yet to reveal his dating status.
