Luke was born to parents Scott Schoonmaker and Michelle Schoonmaker on 28 September 1998. He was raised by his parents in Hamden, Connecticut, United States.
The athlete’s father Scott played college basketball at Assumption University and professionally in Brazil. However, he retired after suffering from an injury. As of now, he serves as the superintendent of schools at North Branford.
Schoonmaker has three siblings; Jack Schoonmaker and twins Mark Schoonmaker and Lily Schoonmaker. Jack played football collegiately at Saint Anselm College.
